How It Works
Your assets stay in your wallet at all times. Obsydian ensures they automatically reach the right person — even if you lose access or are no longer here.
1
Connect your primary wallet
Obsydian reads your on-chain balances across all connected wallets. Your private keys never leave your device — we have no access to your funds.
2
Add a recovery wallet
Your recovery wallet is where assets transfer when a timelock expires. Use your Obsydian email wallet (Privy) or any external address you control — a family member's wallet, a hardware wallet, or a multisig.
3
Set a timelock on your assets
Choose an asset and a duration. Obsydian creates a smart contract timelock. If you check in before the deadline, nothing happens. If you don't, the asset transfers automatically to your recovery wallet.
4
Check in to keep your timelock active
Checking in resets your deadline. Think of it like a heartbeat signal — as long as you're here and active, your assets stay where they are.
Common questions
What happens if I forget to check in?
Your assets transfer automatically to your recovery wallet. This is the intended behaviour — it's how Obsydian protects you if you become incapacitated or pass away.
Can I cancel a timelock?
Yes, at any time before it expires. Go to Timelocks → tap Cancel on any active timelock. Your assets remain in your primary wallet.
Does Obsydian protect against hacks or theft?
No — Obsydian protects against loss of access, not active compromise. If your keys are stolen, Obsydian cannot prevent a thief from moving your funds. Always keep your seed phrase secure.
